Saturday 28th September, Marngrook Special + open-mike, at The Moon & on Zoom!

.
Perth Poetry Club has a Grand Final special about Marngrook, what are the origins of the rules of Aussie Rules, plus open-mike, this Saturday 28th September, 2pm-4pm, at The Moon Café & on Zoom.

Football was a popular game for many Indigenous Australians, which was an expression of athleticism that also served a ceremonial, reconciling purpose.

Aboriginal football was watched by colonists on pastoral stations and in the main settlements.

Marngrook, an Indigenous football game of Melbourne, placed an emphasis on catching the ball and jumping for a catch — early Australian football similarly emphasised catching.

Hear the poetry of Robert Frost, A.E. Housman, E.G. Dyson, Bruce Dawe, William Hammersley, Mel A Rowe, Michael Leunig, Kenn Nesbitt, Brenda Saunders, Oodgeroo Noonuccal, Maxine Beneba Clarke, in this wide ranging commentary on Marngrook, plus open-mike

The Moon Café has new roof sheeting plus insulation. A ceiling will be installed this week we expect. There will be no interruptions - it will a normal gig.
