Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Angella Costi (VIC) & Danno Hansen plus open-mike, this Saturday 21st September, 2pm-4pm, at The Moon Café & on Zoom.
Angela Costi is a poet and writer with a background in social justice and community arts.
Since 1994, her creative gatherings, including plays, short fiction and essays, have been published, performed, broadcasted and translated. Her recent book is An Embroidery of Old Maps and New (Spinifex, 2021, winner of Poetry Prize in English, Greek Australian Cultural League 2022), and her recent chapbook is, Adversarial Practice, published in Cordite Poetry Review, May 2024.
This year, her poetry has been longlisted in the international Fish Poetry Prize, the Grieve Project and the University of Canberra Health Poetry Prize, and published in a number of journals including Meanjin, The Journal of Working-Class Studies, Meniscus, Australian Poetry Anthology and Australian Poetry Journal.
She lives on unceded Wurundjeri land, and is known as Αγγελικη Κωστη among the Cypriot diaspora, which is her heritage and ancestry.
Danno Hansen is a Nyoongar performing artist from Ballardong country, born on Whadjuk country. Danno is a UWA student studying Indigenous history, heritage & knowledge.
Danno also works part time on country as a Ballardong Ranger conserving the land & all the animals on it while learning all he can from his elders and peers.
These days Danno likes to write music & poetry between work & studies which has also helped Danno with any mental health issues he has had to deal with over the years.
Danno hopes that his Poetry work can help others through any hard times as well as help them learn about Aboriginal culture & get recognition for Aboriginal people & their ways.
The Moon Café will also be in renovation mode – the poetry itself may be enough to blow the roof off the back room. The Back Room has a NEW roof, so all good for the gig.
