Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poet Eddie O’Meara + open-mike this Saturday 24th June, 2pm-4pm at The Moon Café and on ZOOM.
Eddie O'Meara moved to Australia in 1989 from Dublin Ireland and had and still has all kinds of difficulties settling into life in Perth living a nightmarish childhood and an even worse adulthood while always suffering from social phobia, then chronic depression evolving into bipolar then paranoid schizophrenia. Since 2012 he has raged against the machine that deems him nothing but a stereotype which brought him to Russian literature which he feels saved his life particularly Fyodor Dostoevsky which some warned him against reading but it revolutionised the way he sees the world and he feels a certain fatherly influence from the great man and has often felt a sense of falling in and out of love with Dostoevsky’s writing/philosophy many times over the last 8 or so years.
Poetry to Eddie is nothing more than something to do alone at night and an interesting way to express the process of falling in love, a process of which may never end for him.
