This Saturday is Woman Scream 2016, the Sixth Woman Scream International Poetry Festival in association with WA Poets Inc and the Women Poets International Movement. Your MCs for the afternoon will be Christine Della Vedova and Tineke Van der Eecken.
The format is Open Mike – all welcome
This year’s message is against ancient practices and laws of abuse against women, such as rape, Genital Mutilation, stoning, acid attacks on women and girls.
This Sunday 28th February there is a Garage Sale Fundraiser for Perth Poetry Club and the Viable Human Mob.
This Saturday sees our Recoil-7 zine launch. Some of the favourite features from last year's Perth Poetry Club have contributed poems to this zine.

Daniel Oxenburgh (also known as Snoop Bilby) is a multi-talented WA poet.
His poetry has been illustrated by Alexander Hayes and published as a book “Quicksilver” with an exhibition at Gomboc Gallery in 2002. He has written poetry to accompany two photography exhibitions by Angus Skene “Formations Creatures Land and Sea” in 2010 and “Kimberley Expressions” in 2011. You can also read his poetry in The Australian Writers’ Journal 1993,1994 and Uneven Floor 2014.
David Slade (pictured left) spent 40 years in the world of fire insurance. Having ‘dabbled’ in writing poetry for many years, early retirement provided the opportunity to join Slipstream Poets, a group based in Storrington, West Sussex and Silk Road Writers in Littlehampton. Visiting Australia, David has been a regular contributor to Perth Poetry Club
David has published two collections of Poetry, ‘Images on a Silver Screen’ in 2009 and ‘A Matter of Record’ in 2014, and numerous items in magazines.

Our feature this week is The Said Poets Society.
The Said Poets Society cares about telling good stories. The stories we’re told in the media, the stories we tell each other, and especially the stories we tell ourselves, shape the world we live in. The Said Poets team believe that to inspire positive action, we first have to inspire positive thinking by letting young people know the power they hold as storytellers. The Society runs performance poetry workshops in Perth high schools to equip young people to create change through the power of stories.
FAWWA and WA POETS INC present POETRY NIGHT with Alwyn Marriage.
Please join us on Wednesday 3 February for a night of poetry with visiting UK poet, Alwyn Marriage. Alwyn will be sharing some of her work, as well as her insights on the UK poetry publishing scene.
There will also be a showcase of local poets reciting their chosen works. Wine and cheese provided.

Caitlin Maling (pictured right) is a WA poet currently living in Sydney. A first collection "Conversations I've never Had" was published last year through Fremantle Press. A second collection is forthcoming early 2017. Caitlin has been making waves on the east coast – the surf’s up when she’s visiting the west coast.
