has wonderful poets Jenifer Hetherington & Gaye McPhie + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge & on ZOOM.
Jenifer Hetherington lives in Wayalup on Whadjuk Boodjar. A retired educator, her focus is now writing, meditation and her family. Her work has been published in journals including Rabbit, APJ, Cuttlefish 1,2 & 3, Poetica Christi, Minds Shine Bright, Poetry D'Amour, Brushstrokes and Enchanted Verses. She won the Spilt Ink competition 2022. She was a participant in the Writing WA Emerging Writer’s Programme 24/25, undeterred by likely being the oldest ever emerging poet. Her recently completed collection is searching for a home. She is in recovery from news imparted by her 8-year-old granddaughter on enquiring about the health of her once beloved invisible unicorn. The reply, with rolled eyes and a swish of her curls, ‘Extinct! Don’t you know about climate change?'
Gaye McPhie started writing in her diary when she was nine. Life got in the way for many years but in 2019 she picked up the pen again, joined Jaya Penelope’s women’s writing circle and has been obsessed with poetry ever since. In 2024 she was the winner of the KSP Writer’s Centre’s Annette Cameron Encouragement Award for her poem Timelines. Her poems Knead and Nest were both longlisted in WA Poet’s 2025 Poetry d’Amour. Knead was shortlisted and received a Highly Commended Award. Her poem Mother/Stranger was longlisted this year for the Grieve Project at the Hunter’s Writer Centre in NSW.
