Perth Poetry Club this Saturday 11th April 2026, 2pm-4pm, has wonderful poets
Melissa Curran (NSW) and Karen Lowry, and the Green Spaces zine Launch + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge and on ZOOM.
Melissa Curran is a Sydney-based poet whose work explores attention, desire and the shifting self. Her poems have appeared in Australian and other journals as well as in the Australian Anthology of Prose Poetry. She is the author of The Long Drowning (Five Islands Press). Melissa is currently writing a series of poems about the American poet, Frank O’Hara. She is interested in what resists being resolved. She has never been to Perth.
Karen Lowry writes confronting, experimental poetry. Her debut collection, This Fragile Thing (September 2026), is a vulnerable poetic memoir about surviving childhood sexual abuse. Using her experience as a graphic designer, Karen creates poetic collages. Her intimate poems, personal essays, and flash fiction have been published in WritingWA's the little journal, multiple Australian Poetry Journal issues and Black Inc's Growing Up in Country Australia. She has been shortlisted for the QUT digital literature award and the new media writing prize. Karen has a PhD from Curtin University where she currently teaches.
