Perth Poetry Club this Saturday 7th March 2026, 2pm-4pm, has wonderful poets
Jackson (NZ), Lucy Leagrave (UK) and Kevin Reinhardt (UK) + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge and on ZOOM

Jackson (they/them)—previously a local, now living in New Zealand—seeks poems that work whether declaimed loudly or whispered in the mind. They have published four full-length collections, including A coat of ashes (Recent Work Press 2019), based on their award-winning PhD, and aim to submit their fifth manuscript to a publisher this year. Their poems also appear in many journals and anthologies, such as Cuttlefish: Western Australian Poets, London Grip, and Poetry Aotearoa Yearbook. They publish online at writerjackson.com and can be found at facebook.com/writerjackson and on Instagram @thewriterjackson.

Lucy Leagrave works closely with those navigating profound change and the aftershocks of loss, listening for what falters, fractures, or falls silent. She attends to the weight of memory, the unfinished sentence, the pause that carries more than words can hold. In these spaces, she has learned how absence reshapes a life — not dramatically, but in small, persistent shifts.
Her poetry grows from the same ground. Myth unsettles the everyday; animals move through as messengers; cats—wry custodians of the domestic underworld—offer riddles, judgment, and the occasional omen. The ordinary tilts toward the uncanny, and moments of unease open into flashes of wonder. Lucy lingers at these thresholds, where memory, folklore, and the absurd entwine. She invites readers to pause within these subtle disturbances and glimpse the strange, tender vitality that hums beneath the surface of the familiar.

Kevin Reinhardt‘s Poetry has been described as a 'Box of toys nobody knows what to do with, but nevertheless they are still a box of toys'; conversational in tone, intellectually playful, and alert to the absurdities of everyday life, his poems resist well-behaved literary convention, preferring to unsettle, surprise, and occasionally delight in ways that leave their mark long after the reading ends. His proudest achievement has been taking the idea that reading a poem out in a room full of people should be equivalent to doing a Karaoke song and creating London's Premier Poetry Karaoke Bingo night, 'Bingo Master's Breakout' which has been running now for 20 years.
