Perth Poetry Club this Saturday 22nd November, 2pm-4pm, has wonderful poets,
Peter Burges & Kathleen Dzubiel + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge and on ZOOM
Peter Burges is retired, and lives in South Fremantle, WA. His first collection of poems, through slow-turning days, was published in 2019 and he has had poems in The High Window and numerous Australian journals. He placed 3rd in the 2019 Tom Collins competition , 2nd in the 2022 Creatrix competition, and was Highly Commended in the 2019 Poetry d’Amour competition.
Peter lived and worked for 25 years in China, Hong Kong, South East Asia and the Middle East as a business manager and education consultant. Prior to this, he worked on the family farm at Broomehill, WA; studied for four years at the Marist Fathers’ seminary in Sydney, NSW; completed a BA in English Literature at UWA; worked on a Fred Hollows trachoma program in the north of WA; managed a Change Management division in the then Department of Social Security, and spent two years in Thailand as a Buddhist monk engaging in pastoral activities and intensive meditation.
Peter now spends his days writing more poetry, reading, feeding local birds, doing a bit of exercise and socialising, and trying to find humour in the antics of local and overseas governments and corporations.
Kathleen Dzubiel writes poetry and prose and has been adapting her poems into film. Her performance includes screening of "deus ex machina", which is her second attempt at stop-motion animation. Kathleen received the "DADAA In Frame 2025" grant to make the film and was a participant in the "Writing WA Emerging Writers Program 2024-25." Kathleen will also perform a 10minute set of poetry.
