Perth Poetry Club this Saturday 8th November, 2pm-4pm,
has wonderful poets Morgan Yasbincek + Lucy Czerwiec + open-mike
at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge and on ZOOM
Morgan Yasbincek has published four collections of poetry and one novel, the most recent of which is the poetry collection, Coming to nothing.
Her first poetry collection, Night Reversing, won the Anne Elder and Mary Gilmore awards. Her second collection Firelick, was shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s C.J. Dennis Award. Her third collection, White Camel was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Kenneth Slessor Award. Her novel, liv, was shortlisted for the ASAL Gold Medal Award and highly commended by the Victorian Premier’s Award.
She lives in the area of Whudjak Nyoongar Booja known as 'the hills', works in the libraries area and continues a writing practice.
Lucy Czerwiec was born and raised in country W.A. and claims to have freckles made of Jarrah splinters, on both hands. She is a long-time member of OOTA and has been writing poetry and prose for some twenty years. She has published poetry in journals and anthologies in W.A., NSW, and Tasmania. She has published the occasional short story in Australia and contributed to a European history of post war diaspora stories.
Lucy has just completed the Emerging Writers Program for 2024-25 and is working on her first poetry collection with the guidance of her fabulous mentor Caitlin Maling. She won her first Third Prize, in the Spilt Ink Poetry competition recently and is over the moon, under the moon and now inside the moon, to read some of her work.
