Tom Dauven is a Western Australian poet whose work examines grief, trauma, and the complexities of human experience. His writing is marked by emotional vulnerability, brutal truth telling, and careful attention to language that renders difficult subjects accessible. Tom’s poetry sits firmly in the confessional tradition and is characterised by its plainspoken nature and devastating emotional impact.
His work has appeared in various literary anthologies, including Grieve (Hunter Writers Centre) The Weighing of the Heart (OOTA), Poetry d’Amour (WA Poets Inc) and Brushstrokes. Tom's work has also appeared on Mike Ladds Poetica program on ABC Radio National. He is currently completing his book Punctum, a collection that turns intimate moments of pain and reflection into poems with wider resonance. Tom lives and works on Whadjuk Noongar Country in Western Australia and facilitates trauma-informed writing workshops around Perth. In 2025 Tom was a featured poet as part of the Victoria Park Writers Festival.

“I only ever write when I'm falling in love or falling apart. Consequently, my work is poetically aesthetic, yet retrospectively pathetic. A lover of all things literature, it was my middle school English teacher that sparked my interest in poetry when he introduced to me to The Secret by Dylan Thomas. I find inspiration in the silence of quiet moments and I find hope, always, within. I have crawled through the gutter and I have soared through the stars and I can tell you it is perception, not circumstance, that distinguishes the difference.”
