Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Chelinay Gates & Drewfus Gates

Dr Chelinay Gates aka Malardy Mulardy
I’m an indigenous artist, author, poet, playwright and Dr of TCM. Living in Australia, PNG and India I experienced how the marginalised suffer. I’ve worked with activists Sir Ronald Wilson, Ken Colbung, Burnum Burnum and Aunty Hazel. I’m fascinated by the journey of the soul, the dream world and their interface with physicality.
I am a mother of four amazing children who I raised with my ex-husband Dr Drewfus Gates and amazing artist, wordsmith, physicist and mathematician.
I am Drewfus Gates. During my PhD in physics, I took up art and married Chelinay who was studying Traditional Chinese Medicine and also painted. Then I did some part time work lecturing physics at university but I was beginning to feel that, as fundamental and fascinating as physics was, there are more important truths, spiritual and psychological, to be accessed in the arts so Chelinay and I morphed ourselves into professional artists.
In 2001 I was seriously burnt whilst painting in Central Australia. I spent 3 months in Royal Perth Hospital, 17 days of it in an induced coma, in which I had some numinous experiences. I write poetry occasionally in which I usually try to catch something of the mystical, numinous and ineffable.
Together, Chelinay and Drewfus are a driving force behind Guilford’s Poet and Artist Speaks.
