Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets, Allan Padgett & Lorraine Horsley + open-mike
this Saturday 31st May, 2pm-4pm, at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge, and on ZOOM.
Like Australia’s ongoing affair with Monarchy, Allan Padgett is deeply attuned to nostalgia, which he sees as a poetic gateway to reinventing his long lost past, where it has lost its way or turned in the direction of forgetting. His mind has developed a tendency to wander off track like a hungry gecko, thus illustrating a small part of his animal ancestry. To confirm his inner humanity, he once said in a poem that he turned left just as the Apes turned right.
In his final foxtrot, Allan will flutter like a shaftlit room of dusty motes, farewelled from the end of a Derbyl Yerrigan jetty, family reminiscing & laughing & sipping on a cold glass of Swan Valley Mann Rosé, ashes blown into the Swan River, to beat a lengthy retreat to post-Gondwanan Madagascar - there to settle and provide succour, company and nourishment to tropical plants, and thus to lemurs. Allan once read that Ring-tailed Lemurs spend half their time on the ground, sunning, grooming and playing. Plus, they are sensibly omnivorous. This sounds like a lovely way to part company, even if he does not have a long, stripey tail.
Lorraine Horsley writes non-fiction, children’s fiction, adult fiction and occasionally stumbles over the odd poem stuck under the carpet. They’re timid creatures. She coaxes them out occasionally with cider and just a smattering of chocolate.
A few, thus tempted and drunk on proffered sweet treats, have stumbled onto the pages of anthologies including The Open Your Mind Poetry Collection, Grieve, Poetry D’Amour, Ros Spencer’s Brushstrokes and the flash fiction collection Three Can Keep a Secret published by Night Parrot Press.
