Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Phoebe Guadagnino & Elio Novello + open-mike
this Saturday 5th April, 2pm-4pm at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge, and on ZOOM.
Phoebe Guadagnino is a poet, comedian, and emerging somatic sex coach who explores love, desire, and the messy beauty of being human. With a mix of raw honesty and playful humour, their poetry invites you to feel deeply, laugh unexpectedly, and maybe even blush a little. They are the author of Love Me Insane (2020), a collection diving into the chaos and tenderness of love, longing, and self-discovery. Whether on stage or on the page, their words aim to make you feel seen, heard, and maybe just a little turned on.
Elio Novello didn’t write poetry until he was in his 50s, and it invariably revolves around politics, science, environmental/social issues, and religion. He helps run Perth Poetry Club each Saturday, and his MC role at the Club encourages him to read other people’s poetry.
Elio is a geotechnical engineer by profession. He fell into poetry when he came across his older brother’s secondary school poetry books whilst still in primary school. His interest was further developed when in Year 8, a relief English class was taken by History teacher, Charlie Hickey, from California, who proceeded to read Robert Frost poetry all lesson.
Elio finds writing verse a tortured experience at times in terms of endless edits, and having to rewrite poems as political, social and environmental situations change; also as new discoveries are made in science.
