Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Ian Lilburne & Cliff Gillam + reprise of the launch of Crows/Ravens + open-mike
this Saturday 29th March, 2pm-4pm at The Moon Café, 323 William Street Northbridge, and on ZOOM.

It’s been said that lurking inside every arts manager is a frustrated creative. No stranger to the Perth's arts scene, on his ‘retirement’ in 2016 Ian Lilburne crossed over from the dark arts of production to finally give his frustrated inner creative some light. Before then he was best known as the founding director of Perth’s Artrage Festival, and the artistic director|manager of LUMINIOUSnight, the UWA Centennary extravaganza. Now he is more likely to be found wandering the city with his Canon, writing online music and arts reviews for XPress Magazine, reciting poetry at the Perth Poetry Club, singing his back catalogue, or making jarrah furniture for his own comfort.

Musically Ian crafts classic songs in the key of Cohen―thinkative songs of the human conundrum. His lyrics are reflective and poetic while his musical influences range from the Classic American Songbook through folk and pop to minimalism. Over the past fifteen years he has worked with professional producers to record three CDs of original material while also performing solo, in a duo with Sam Ray and with other small ensembles at various venues in and around Perth, Albany and the Great Southern.

Cliff Gillam holds Masters degrees from UWA and Monash, and spent the first eight years of his professional life lecturing at UWA in English literature. After a further eight years working as a theatre professional he commenced a career in public service, retiring as a senior executive in 2017.

His retirement from full time work has allowed him to return to deeper study in the field of moral philosophy, which has remained a key interest since his undergraduate days. It has also given him time to write more poetry, a pastime he has indulged in sporadically, again, since undergraduate days. In the eighties he led a performance poetry group called Poetry in Motion. He has published occasional poems in local journals. He is currently engaged in a self-guided apprenticeship as a sonneteer.

Reprise of Launch of Crows/Ravens, a zine produced by Ross Jackson, with poems about Ravens and Crows from various Perth poets.
