Saturday 13th June, David Slade (UK) and Natty Yee-King (France) + open-mike! VIA ZOOM

This Saturday 13th June we have two fine poets David Slade (UK) and Natty Yee-King (France) + open-mike VIA ZOOM.

We apologise we are not at the Moon Café but we will be via ZOOM.

The Zoom session is on Saturday, 13th June 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

David Slade (UK) lives in Littlehampton in the UK. He qualified as a Chartered Insurer, is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, and spent 40 years working in fire insurance, mainly with Norwich Union, from whom he took early retirement in 2000. After working as an independent consultant he finally retired from business in 2004.

Having ‘dabbled’ in writing poetry for many years, early retirement provided the opportunity to join locally based groups Slipstream Poets and Silk Road Writers.

David has produced 4 collections of his poems ‘Images on a Silver Screen’; ‘A Matter of Record’ and 2 others tracing his 6 month visit to Perth in 2015/16 during which he and his wife were regulars at PPC - ‘The Down Under Collection’ - and a 5 week journey home by sea - ‘Well That Was Much Better Than Flying Home’.

A Matter of Record has sold well over 200 copies and has found a niche audience used in a performance format. Each poem is ‘twinned’ with a 45rpm pop record, mainly from the 1960s, that reflect specific events or times in his life. Everyone in the audience is asked to select 6 records they’d most like to hear and records getting the most ‘votes’ are played followed by reading the associated poem with anecdotal asides.

Natty Yee-King UFO (France, China, UK and beyond) has an incredible bio.

Since her Grandma bought her a horror make-up kit when she was 8, Natty's creative work has dealt with externalizing internal environments intuitively getting to the heart of the matter.

After obtaining a degree in Contemporary Arts (UK) and taking time out as a trainee Teddy Bear repair nurse amongst other things she spent time in Thailand and Tokyo around the Millenium conducting a series of impromptu performance art sketches, collecting binaural sound recordings samples on two stereo mics gifted to her by someone claiming to be Arlo Guthrie's cousin.

Returning to the UK she went on to found an improv noise band “The Vampire's Underpants” and a Punk noise band “ Tricerotops”. Around the same time she founded the Dead Art Movement. Simultaneously she worked on an experimental theatre project “Anomalia Oscillatoria” (UK Spain Norway) as sound artist, co deviser and performer.

After this time she has performed and jammed with several artists plus a one time jam with her brother aka YEE KING where she confused him by freestyling pestle and mortar as she played an improv piece “The dance of the word grinder”. They are still barely on speaking terms now but grunt the occasional email out to each other. During lock down she has also kept him digitally enhanced via a series of virtual TV dinners.

Whilst studying Acupuncture her first degree show piece Cyberlungs was reanimated to be shortlisted in 2009 for the Munton Medallion award for an understanding and appreciation of personal ethics. Being near it has the calming effect of syncronizing your breathing. This is soon to be followed by another piece she also devised around the same time “Lung Forest”.

Over the last 10 years she's lived in exile working in France and China gaining inspiration during work and travels taking the opportunity to reconnect with many lost and found parts of her heritage.

She's created a spot of zombie mischief here and there including organizing the first mass zombie walk to be held in Wuhan central China 2011 where she also zombied her way through a Halloween competition via the volume of her scream to beat the local Rap artist who tried to raise volume via an anti Japan tirade and no she didn't share her vodka prize with ANYONE.

If you know anything at all then rest assured you “herd it through the grapevine”. She tends to instigate and motivate many things via small actions in the right places. A lot of her work somehow prophesies future events as she is not quite so young gifted and mixed race.

If you like her work follow her on twitter for details of a long awaited upcoming pamphlet publication. (she still has to make the paper)

Natty is available on Twitter @NattyYeeKing and Instagram as NATTY.YEE.KING and will shortly be uploading some of her songs and poems online for you all to enjoy.
