Perth Poetry Club has wonderful poets Tanmoy Chakraborty, Gabby Everall, Paul Kohn, Alicia Sometimes plus open-mike this Saturday 24th August, 2pm-4pm at The Moon Café and on ZOOM.
This is part of the Perth Poetry Festival 2024 – great feature poets, and with open-mike (2 minutes max per open-miker).
Tanmoy Chakraborty is a Bengali poet, columnist, and translator based in Kolkata. He works for the Government of West Bengal and holds a Master’s degree in Physics from Calcutta University. An alumnus of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, Tanmoy draws inspiration from Rabindranath Tagore. Hailing from Agarpara, his literary works reflect a deep admiration for Tagore's contributions to Bengali literature. Tanmoy's poetry and columns are known for their profound insights and lyrical beauty, making him a respected voice in contemporary Bengali literature.
Gabrielle Everall has a PhD in Creative Writing. The second edition of her book Dona Juanita and the love of boys was published with Buon-Cattivi Press. John Kinsella included the second edition of Dona Juanita and the love of boys as one of the best poetry books for 2020 in Australian Book Review. She has been published in numerous anthologies including The Penguin Anthology of Australian Poetry. She has performed her poetry at La Mama, The Bowery in New York and The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has also performed her work at The Evil Women conference in Vienna and Prague. In March she launched her fourth collection of poetry Venus Without Furs.
Paul Kohn is a writer of poetry and short stories, performer of spoken word, and creator of music and lyrics. Residing in South Australia, he’s featured at local and national events, sharing words from his debut poetry collection, ‘Soul Refraction’ (Dragonfly Publishing). His words have also been published in a number of national and international anthologies, both online and in print. Paul writes as a way of processing, understanding, healing and growing, and shares his written and spoken word poetry all over Australia and the world in the hope that it helps others too.
Alicia Sometimes is a writer, multimedia artist and broadcaster. She has performed her spoken word and poetry at many venues, festivals and events around the world. Her poems have been in Best Australian Science Writing, Best Australian Poems, Meanjin, Westerly and many more. Alicia has been awarded residencies at Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre, Varuna, Melbourne Aquarium, Boyd Garret (City of Melbourne) and a virtual residency for the Manchester Literature Festival. She was a Creative Fellow at the State Library of Victoria. In 2023 she received ANAT’s Synapse Artist Residency and co-created an art installation for Science Gallery Melbourne’s exhibition, Dark Matters.
