Perth Poetry Club has the wonderful Helen Hagemann and the launch of her new book Bounty: Prose Poetry plus open-mike this Saturday 25th May, 2pm-4pm, at The Moon Café and on Zoom.
In her own words “I decided I would launch my new collection at the Moon Cafe, having been approached by Neil Pattinson (albeit at Andrew Burke’s funeral). I was invited to read sometime this year. I told Neil that I was having a new collection released and that I would approach him when published. Hence, my choosing to launch the book and read a few prose poems. I did attend the Perth Poetry Club’s 15th birthday on 30th March and gave them a taste of one poem.
This collection Bounty: Prose Poetry is a two decade long exploration of the form that has allowed me to explore a multi-layer of styles and preoccupations within the genre.
A small selection of the prose poems has been previously published in Southerly, Westerly, Cordite, Eureka Street Journal and online. It was a fortuitous time in 2021 when I subscribed to a Frontier Prose Poetry Project. I received a favourable response from Prose Poetry Editor Jose Hernandez Diaz who ostensibly praised four poems: Bridge, Church, Hotel and Market. He has since provided me with a quote for the book, so gratefully I have included his kind words.
The voice lingers playfully in reverie, as many speakers in good prose poems do. There is a lot of experimentation with the force of language and sound. Bravo! – Jose Hernandez Diaz, author of Bad Mexican, Bad American and The Parachutist.
Open-mike as usual.
Join us to celebrate poetry at The Moon from the back room, and on Zoom.
