Saturday 13th February, Jennifer Catalano + open-mike! via Zoom

This Saturday 13th February 2pm-4pm we have wonderful poet Jennifer Catalano + open-mike, VIA ZOOM.

We have two bios for Jennifer Catalano.

Jennifer Catalano was born and raised in the small towns, farmlands and the peppermint and the marri/jarrah forests of the South West.  One day in the mid-1980s she looked out from the first floor window of the building located next to the British Museum and saw that workers had removed the stone pavers. What she saw shocked her. For the first time she became fully conscious of the earth under her feet and of the earth lying under the edifices from which we construct our lives.

She returned to Perth with a determination to work for this land and place and over the years has done so as a spoken word and visual artist, environmental and social justice activist, herbalist, lawyer and local government politician. She returns now to poetry to describe her experience of living on this land, in this place, at this time.

Jennifer Catalano lives in the City of Swan (for over 25 years).  She has worked for many years with local community groups to improve urban and natural environments.  She has “extensive experience as a community advocate lobbying Local, State and Federal Government to improve our communities and the environment.”  She is “passionate about community consultation and participation”.

Jennifer works as a Solicitor for a local community legal centre and is passionate about social justice.  Jennifer is a local government council member (City of Swan).  She is also a painter-artist liking to use dirt from the local wetlands and wilderness to create pastes which she paints with.  Also the co-author of The bush is a garden : chemical free weeding strategies (2014).

Her life bio informs what her poetry is about.

The venue is not Moon Café, 323 William St, Northbridge.  Covid restictions limit their cafe capacity to 25 for the ENITIRE place.  Please support them for the next 2 weeks as much as possible as Covid restrictions apply.
