This Saturday 23rd May we have three fine poets Dick Alderson, Tineke Van der Eecken and Elsewhere/Rebecca + open-mike VIA ZOOM.

We apologise we are not at the Moon Café but we will be via ZOOM.  The Zoom session is on Saturday, 23rd May 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Dick Alderson grew up in Perth on a small farm with chickens and orange trees.  He became an engineer and at various times lived in Sydney and London.  Having finally done all that, he started writing poetry in 1994.  Dick's poems have appeared in various journals including Westerly and Australian Poetry Journal, and in the Anthology of Western Australian Poetry.  His first poetry book “The Astronomer’s Wife” was published in 2014 by Sunline Press, to critical acclaim, and was commended in the Anne Elder Awards.  He has been called 'a poet of the land, the city and elegant observations'.  He is a member of OOTA.

Tineke Van der Eecken writes poetry which often crosses geographical and language boundaries, and expresses a diversity of experiences through the lens of a Belgian born Australian.  Tineke’s poetry is published in Blackmail Press, Famous Reporter, Indigo, OOTA Writers, Creatrix, Uneven Floor, Poetry d’Amour and Going Swinging’.  She has a collection of multilingual ‘spoken poems’ entitled ‘Language’ available (free) as audible downloads from Soundcloud.  Tineke Van der Eecken is the author of two books, ‘Traverse’ which was shortlisted for the 2016 TAG Hungerford Awards, and ‘Cafe d’Afrique’, a story about her restaurant and life in Zambia.  More info www.readtraverse.com

Rebecca Riggs-Bennett (or Elsewhere/Rebecca) is an emerging sound and spoken word artist, sound designer, electronic music producer and director working on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja (Perth, WA). Her practice is interdisciplinary, often engaged with community, and branches across performance, installation and live music. She focuses on the dramaturgy of sound and works to highlight its ability to share stories or influence feelings, whether that be through participation, immersion or interactivity.

Rebecca has an interest in sharing experiences that can't always be seen, and works with field recordings, conducted audio interviews, archival audio and electronic music in order to create her pieces. Since studying electronic music production at SAE Institute, Rebecca has presented work, worked on projects and taken up residencies/labs with Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Perth Festival, The Blue Room Theatre, pvi collective, Arts House (VIC), Cool Change Contemporary, WA Youth Theatre Company, Riptide Youth Theatre Company, Crack Theatre Festival (NSW) and Glastonbury Festival (UK). Rebecca is currently enrolled in Practice Transition at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, with a focus on how sound and performance coexist in form and space.
