This Saturday 25th May we have two wonderful poets Michael James + Kimberley Zeneth and open-mike at Perth Poetry Club.
Michael James has been writing poetry for thirty years but his output has been sporadic and his relationship with the craft ambivalent. Formerly a political pamphleteer influenced by anarchist and non-violent theories he has recently re-embraced poetry, fiction and storytelling as a way of exploring themes through language, rhythm and imagery. Much of his recent work is preoccupied with movement across the spatial and temporal landscapes. A graduate of History he seeks to locate his poetry within a broader cultural discourse. He is writing his first novel and works as a teacher at an Intensive English Centre in suburban Perth.
Kimberley Zeneth (nee Mann) Kim grew up in Alice Springs. She's published poems in journals, books, parking-meters, in stone & on skin. She’s done a Masters Creative Writing, created poetry installation for the Adelaide Fringe, co-wrote an opera libretto & won three Varuna Fellowships. Awake During Anaesthetic was published in 2009. Adelaide City Council commissioned Kim to work with four sculptors to create the Wirranendi Sculpture Trail. Kim works as a counsellor & lives in Fremantle with her beautiful wife.
All this with usual open mike as well.
